Do you believe?

i'm not sure i have faith. i know i lost faith in the church the more i learned about the world. and it's history. i know i lost faith in religion after 9-11. it suddenly seemed that ideology had trumped humanity. i lost faith in god after my grandmother died. i lost faith in myself after i gave up on my attempt to climb the nose.

at this point in my life i don't know if i have faith. maybe confidence. maybe inspiration. maybe motivation. but faith is a pill that's much harder to swallow.

I don't believe our country resembles what our forefathers envisioned when they took the risks and endured the hardships they did to establish the United States of America. I don't believe, with another term for this administration, we will come any closer. I don't believe that the ragged divisions and suspicions among us, nor the international contempt against us, does anything to make us the free and enviable place of opportunity and equity we wish to be. I don't believe in pigeonholes and boxes like 'liberal' and 'conservative' that dictate who we are, how we behave, or how we see our place within our communities. I don't believe that 'superpower' was meant to be synonymous with 'bully', but with 'leader'. And I don't believe that we've created a place or society that other nations care to follow or to believe in.

What I do believe is that if everyone does their homework, opens their minds and votes not for party loyalties but for purposes of healing, restoration and forward progress... we can return with our blankets and beer, neighbors and pride.. to the Fourth of July.

I believe. I believe that America has and will always contain(ed) good and bad people but that the underlying goodness remains. Once or twice every eight years we have a bloodless change-over of power from one President to another. People are allowed to be critical of our leaders without fear of having their families killed for it. The court system is able to invalidate even the President's policies. How can anyone take this for granted???

I believe that deposing Saddam was a good thing. I believe that Iraq is a better place today than it was a year ago, and a much better place than it was a year before that. I believe that Bush has been more effective than the last several presidents combined. I believe that elitist snobs who condescending tell "the common man" that they're trying to help and "know better" can't stand the idea of a seemingly common man in power, prefering that the polished, "educated" elites rule over the working class cattle. I believe that the vast majority of our soldiers in Iraq are there out of a desire to make a positive difference in that country and in the world in general. I believe that we'd be better off if we had mandatory service; I wish I'd served. I believe that I am incredibly fortunate to be an American, and that my children are incredibly fortunate to be inheriting a world with fewer terrorists.

I believe in our country, and our troops, and our President.

I want to belive in people but things like:

"I have friends and coworkers in the military. I support and respect them. But I don?t support the war."

Make me wonder. How can you support them but not support what they do. I have seen this before. I donīt support the war AND I donīt support those who make it.

Belive me, it is easier when you are on the receiving end of a military dictatorship (Argentina, circa 1970). Then you donīt support the dictatorship, but you donīt support those who make it happen. There is nothing glamorous or worth supporting about people in camouflage carring weapons, even if they are your friends.....

Make up your mind. If you donīt support the war tell your frinds to get the fuck out of the army or they stop being your friends. Else assume that you ARE a part of the system and you DO support the war and those who make it. Shit happens.

It happened again during Reagans reing. I was a physycs student in LA. All my classmates went to work for defence contractors. I could have made money there but I didnīt. I DON'T support the war and I donīt work in an outfit the makes misiles.

And it happened to the poor lady in the hospital. It finally dawned on her that she was alone, that those friends of yours you support are not her friends, they are the ones that helped get her husband killed. And thousands more of many nationalities.

I belive in very little these days. I see my country once again in real trouble and I see few willing to trully help. Just like that States in Iraq. Nothing to support, nothing to be proud of.

I have a hard time distinguishing between the fact and the fiction when it comes to the news, how can your respect a voice of someone getting paid to give you a story. Thats why fray is the best. Our whole life as a country we have faught wars for reasons that where questionable, but. Lets bring up the Civil War, faught over the freedom of slavery. Well atleast in general terms it was faught for freedom(no one trully knows the truth). But their is one man that decides whether or not to go to war. Do you actually think that that person didnt give it a serious fucking thought. War is a horrible thing, but does anyone out there really think that if they were put in the situation that our president is in that they could make the right decision. He is the voice of everyone in this country. Thats a serious pressure put on a person. If I was called into war through the draft, I would go and I would give it my all. Because that is what we have brought this world to. And war will never go away. Because eveyone in this world has a cause to fight for. wether its with the local little league or the fact that another country has fucked with our way life. Because if we didnt fight back then we would be missing cities, we would be threatned every day of a attack. But no, we live without concerns while theres men and woman fighting for us and we sit back and bitch about it. I will spend my fourth of july thinking about the people that are in Irag fighting for us, having the balls to do something about this whole fucked up situation. While all of you sit back and reap the benefits of a free world. Tonight I will thank our country and our people fighting for us, because they deserve it and they need the support.
