David gave me smoking.

Late teen, tall and thin, with short brown, late-'80s feathered hair and bright blue eyes. Button-down oxford shirts, Levis, and boat shoes. Everything about his attitude and stance said "cocky" in the way that only 17-year-old guys can pull off.

It was your typical girl meets boy. Boy lights up a cigarette. Girl thinks "Boy will like me if I smoke!" and lights cigarette too. Girl is fifteen and still believes these things. She is young and insecure and believes the other things he says as well – that he'll love her more if she does. And so she does.

And then he doesn't.
