Here's the thing: small magazines like ours depend on our subscribers in order to publish. And we don't have enough subscribers to publish the next issue yet. And that makes us sad.
So we're having a subscription drive. If you've ever thought about subscribing, now's the time! And to sweeten the pot, we've reduced prices by up to $15. The more subscribers we get, the sooner we can publish issue 2. To sign up, step right this way.
We're also seeking sponsors for the issue. If you or your company would be interested in supporting Fray, please drop us a line.
We're having fun playing with Flickr's new video feature, and have embraced their 90-second limit to create a new group: 90-Second Stories. Here's the video I posted to kick things off.
We're having a super-secret friends-only sale! Subscribe to Fray now and get five bucks off a Toe-Dipper or ten bucks of a Subscription. For a limited time, only! And thanks.
Fray Issue 1: Busted! is now available in three local independent stores in San Francisco. If you wanna see it in RL, drop by one of these fine establishments:
Thinking about writing a story for Fray's Geek book but not sure what to write about? Here are a few ideas for stories we'd love to see. If you decide to work on one, please let us know! And if you are one of these people and happen to come across this page, won't you please write us a story? And if you have an idea for a story, tell us by emailing "geek" at fray.com.
The second issue of Fray Quarterly is on the theme: "Geek: Stories of People Taking Things Too Seriously." And we don't just mean nerd stuff: You can be a geek about anything, so long as you care about it just a little too much.
We're using Google Docs to do a kind of storytelling survey, asking for true stories from real people. If you'd take a minute to share yours, we'd really appreciate it. So tell us, what are you a geek about?
If you were in Austin for SXSW last week, hopefully you were able to drop by the Red Eyed Fly for the 8th annual Fray Cafe. It was great! We had a ton of amazing stories. And, as a surprise, everyone who told a story got a copy of Fray Issue 1: Busted. Special thanks to emcee Baeatunde Thurston, who rocked both the mic and the clipboard, and Michael Brown, who manned the audio board and has been working behind the scenes on Fray Cafe Austin for too many years to count now.
Missed the fun? You can see some photos on Flickr. We'll get the audio online as soon as we can. Thanks for another great Fray Cafe, Austin! See you next year.
Fray Cafe is on its way back to Austin for SXSW. As always, we're at the Red Eyed Fly! And this year, we have a new host: comedian, author, vigilante pundit and overall social media junkie Baeatunde Thurston. There will be featured stories from Fray authors Kevin Smokler, Heather Gold, and more. We'll also have our open mic, so bring your own story to tell! You can RSVP at Upcoming.
One of Fray's awesome sponsors for Issue 1 is Blurb. If you're a creative sort (and we know you are), and have ever thought about publishing your own book, give them a try. They produce beautiful print-on-demand books.
In fact, if you'd like to give Blurb a spin, they've given us a promo code to pass on to you. Just enter fray108 when checking out to get $10 off buying your first book there. (Expires 15 May 2008.)
We've also prepared a special treat: A hardcover edition of Fray Issue 1: Busted!, available exclusively through Blurb. It's a little bigger than the regular version (8x10) with a cloth hardbound cover and color dust jacket. It's available now!
